Nature-Infused Creativity: An Outdoor Writing Workshop

Join us for an inspiring outdoor retreat at Malakta during the International Creativity Symposium. As a facilitator, screenwriter and Doctoral Researcher Kirsi Reinola will lead a pre-symposium event taking place in a rural landscape setting that seamlessly blends nature and creativity, Malakta surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for this enriching experience.   

Attendance requires no prior writing skills or specific knowledge.  The workshop is free of charge for participants of the symposium. Yet participation is limited to 6-8 people.


Workshop Description:

Discover the profound impact of nature on your creativity at a writing mini-retreat! This immersive workshop showcases how outdoor natural surroundings spark curiosity, inspire fresh ideas, and foster flexible thinking. 

Research highlights the unique role of nature in revitalizing our focus, crucial for analyzing and refining concepts. Especially beneficial during the preparation and incubation phases of the creative process, nature offers the perfect backdrop for literary exploration. 

Tap into the endless creative potential that natural environments provide, enhancing your creativity in ways you never imagined.

The Workshop takes place entirely outdoors and includes:

  • A short lecture on the impact of nature on creativity
  • Short creative writing assignments (please bring you own pen and paper, we are writing by hand)
  • Present awareness and conscious immersion exercises  

Facilitator

Kirsi Reinola is a versatile writer, researcher, and educator in the art field with over two decades of experience. From freelance writing to executive roles, she has excelled in various capacities. Currently a Doctoral Researcher at Aalto University's Film Department and an early-stage researcher at Tallinn University's Enactive Virtuality Lab, Reinola specializes in interdisciplinary research. 

Drawing from cognitive film studies, creativity, creative writing, eco-psychology, and cognitive psychology, her work focuses on the micro-phenomenological interview and analysis method. Her current study explores the impact of natural environments on creativity, investigating how they enhance cognitive flexibility, idea generation, and innovation. By blending empirical studies with creative practice, Reinola offers fresh insights into the intricate relationship between nature and human creativity.
